Is Anxiety Making It Difficult Just To Get Through The Day?

Do you feel overwhelmed by constant worry that seems to show up no matter what you do?

Has your anxiety begun to get in the way of focusing at work or school and showing up in relationships?

Are you caught in cycles of avoidance that leave you frustrated or ashamed?

When anxiety goes beyond everyday stress, it can take over your mind and body. You might feel on edge or irritable, stuck in an enduring state of nervousness and fear. Physically, your body may be trapped in “fight or flight” mode. Even when you’re not in danger, your heart races, your chest feels tight, and you might be uncomfortably sweaty, dizzy, and short of breath.

Trying To Avoid Anxiety Can Backfire

To cope with your symptoms, you may avoid people, places, or situations that trigger your anxiety. Perhaps you tend to put off important tasks or miss out on important events because it feels safer to stay home.

While avoidance can bring short-term relief, it often worsens your anxiety over time, making your fears even more challenging to face. Over time, this can lead to guilt and self-criticism, especially if you feel like you’re “overreacting” or should be able to handle things better.

If anxiety is interfering with your daily life, work, school, or connections with others, there is hope for the future. Therapy can help you understand what’s driving your anxiety, shift away from avoidance, and regain a sense of calm and control in your life.

Anxiety Disorders Are More Serious Than Normal Stress

Everyone experiences mild stress and anxiety. It’s normal to feel worried once in a while.

But when an individual has a true anxiety disorder, their symptoms are far more intense. Instead of rising and falling with life’s challenges, anxiety lingers at high levels for long periods of time, getting in the way of handling normal responsibilities and finding joy in the day-to-day.

With an anxiety disorder, the body’s internal safety system, known as the “fight or flight” response, goes into overdrive. Even if you logically understand that your fears are irrational, your nervous system continues to warn you about potential danger, and telling yourself to simply “calm down” isn’t enough to soothe your mind and body.

Quick Fixes Don’t Address Deep Anxiety

Many people seek out easy solutions for dealing with anxiety, like positive thinking or productivity hacks. But while basic self-help tips can be useful for managing mild stress, quick fixes aren’t enough to address clinical anxiety disorders.

If you’ve tried to resolve your anxiety on your own, you might have felt discouraged or blamed yourself for not being able to “get it under control.” Despite your efforts, your symptoms may have gotten worse over time.

But anxiety isn’t simply a switch you can turn off, and struggling to manage it by yourself isn’t a sign that you’re weak. Counseling for anxiety disorders can open up a new path to a more balanced life.

Therapy Can Help You Find Lasting Anxiety Relief

Whether you struggle with panic attacks, health-related fears, or anxiety in social or professional situations, therapy can help you understand what’s happening in your mind and body. You’ll gain practical tools to reduce your symptoms and reclaim agency within your life.

When you’re suffering from anxiety, the thought of reaching out to a therapist can feel nerve-wracking. Many clients worry about opening up or wonder whether therapy will really help. Taking the first steps towards healing can be hard, and seeking support is a brave decision.

By choosing to work with a therapist, you’re already making progress and conquering your fears. We’ll always move at a pace that feels manageable and comfortable for you.

What To Expect In Anxiety Therapy Sessions

A therapy Session with a client

In therapy, we’ll start by getting to know each other and building a supportive, trusting relationship. During your first session, we will discuss your symptoms, how anxiety has affected your day-to-day life, and the specific obstacles you’re facing as a result. We’ll build your treatment plan collaboratively and uncover what you want to accomplish through therapy.

In later sessions, we’ll pinpoint your triggers, patterns of avoidance, and the thoughts and physical sensations that tend to fuel your anxiety. You’ll work on building your confidence, making decisions with greater self-assurance, and engaging more fully in all aspects of your life.

Treatment Approaches For Anxiety Disorders

I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), the preeminent evidence-based treatment for anxiety disorders. CBT focuses on resolving the challenges you face today and understanding how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all connected. Through this approach, you’ll learn to identify your personal anxiety triggers, challenge negative thought patterns, decrease your body’s stress response, and gradually face feared situations in a supported and structured way.

In addition to CBT, I integrate mindfulness and acceptance techniques to help you let go of “what if” fears about the future and self-criticism over the past. Instead, you’ll practice focusing on the here and now. This might include grounding exercises, noticing your five senses, breathwork, or pausing to recognize what you can control in the moment. Acceptance work supports you in releasing the constant need for certainty and learning to tolerate discomfort without anxiety.

Over time, you’ll learn to calm your nervous system and retrain your brain to stop misinterpreting everyday experiences as dangerous. With practice, anxiety can lose its grip.

Anxiety disorders are highly treatable. If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, fearful, or indecisive, change is within your reach. There’s nothing “wrong” with you, and with therapy, you can learn to manage your anxiety effectively and build a calmer, more fulfilling life.

But You May Still Have Questions About Anxiety Therapy…

  • In therapy, you’ll become equipped with the tools and techniques you need to address your anxiety independently in your daily life. Through CBT, you’ll learn “user-friendly” skills that you can apply outside of sessions so that you won’t be dependent on therapy forever.

  • When you work with me, you’ll have support from a specialist with years of experience in treating serious anxiety-related disorders. We focus on building effective skills to resolve your most pressing symptoms, rather than just talking about how you’re feeling. This client-centered approach is a powerful antidote to anxiety.

  • I offer flexible appointment times throughout the day and evenings to accommodate most schedules. I can meet with you in-person or virtually for your convenience. There isn’t a certain number of sessions you’re required to attend in order to see results, and we can individualize your treatment plan to suit your needs and availability.
